Hurricane Preparedness:

HurricaneAwnings subject to high winds develop considerable uplift forces. The most significant aspect of awning wind resistance is its anchorage. The best protection we have against a hurricane is adequate preparation.

Most awnings are designed and engineered so that the covers can be safely removed without damage and stored in a secure area in the event of an emergency. After a storm has passed, the awnings can easily be restored to their original positions.

Most local building codes state that awning covers should be removed if winds are expected to be more than 74 mph. However, we recommend that covers be removed well before hurricane-strength winds are reached.
